1. as Optimum transmission frequency window: Conventional Single-mode fiber and Dispersion shifted single-mode fiber

Conventional Single-mode fiber: The manufacturer optimize the transmission frequency of fiber in a single-wavelength. Such as 1300μm

Dispersion shifted single-mode fiber: the manufacturer optimize the transmission frequency of fiber in two wavelength. Such as 1300μm and 1550μm

 

2. as Refractive index distribution: Mutant fiber and  Granded-index fiber

Mutant fiber: the refractive from fiber center core to cladding glass is mutated. The cost Is low, Inter-modal high dispersion. It is used to Short low-speed communication

Graded-index fiber: the refractive from fiber center core to cladding glass is becomes smaller. Allows high mode-fiber transmission through Sinusoidal form, and Reduce inter- mode dispersion, Increase fiber bandwidth as well as the transmission distance. But, the cost is high. Now, the multi-mode fiber is granded-index fiber.   

 

3.  as the light in the fiber transmission mode: Single-mode fiber and multi-mode fiber

     Single-mode fiber: the center glass core is slim (core is 9~10μm), it only can transmission one mode light.

Multi-mode fiber: the center glass core is crude (core is 50 to 62.5 um), it can transmission multi-mode light
